The City of Pensacola Sanitation Services and the Escambia County Solid Waste Management Division's Recycling Operations are pleased to offer a new Curbside Recycling Pilot Program. Collection containers were delivered July 9, 2008 and collection of recyclables began on July 18, 2008.
The City of Pensacola and Escambia County have partnered to provide this curbside recycling pilot project for approximately 400 sanitation customers in the East Hill Neighborhood. The City anticipates that the study project will last several months before a conclusion can be made on the program's effectiveness and a recommendation concerning a citywide recycling program can be made.
Residents in the pilot project area are encouraged to use the recycling container to help reduce the volume of solid waste generated within our city and county. The success of the project depends on the participation of you and your neighbors.
This innovative recycling pilot program will allow Sanitation Services and Recycling Operations to answer the call from a growing number of citizens to bring curbside recycling services to the community. In addition to a weekly collection of garbage in the City's black garbage cart (Tuesdays), residents will be provided with a sandstone colored cart for recyclable materials which will also be collected once-a-week (Fridays) at no additional charge. In the designated 400 home East Hill area, the collection of recyclables includes:
