This Division manages and abates arthropods that promote disease or create nuisance conditions. This program is staffed and equipped to manage and reduce populations of mosquitoes, biting flies and other stinging and injurious arthropods in all areas of Escambia County, including the City of Pensacola and the Town of Century. This is accomplished by using living organisms that destroy pest species, by identifying and implementing sanitation practices, water management procedures, construction standards and community codes that limit pest propagation; by applying pesticides of proper strength and type to destroy the appropriate developmental stages of each pest species; and by combining and coordinating the use of these methods and practices into a comprehensive integrated pest management (IPM) program that allows for minimal use of pesticide products.
