Public Social Services

The Division of Public Social Services contains a variety of community-based projects that enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Escambia County . Some services are ongoing while others may be implemented on a temporary basis.

 

 

SUMMER FEEDING SERVICE PROGRAM (SFSP)

The Summer Feeing Service Program provides balanced nutritional lunches, at no charge, to children during summer vacation when school lunches and snacks are not available. The meals provided are similar to those offered under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs during the school year. Meals are provided to children aged 18 years or younger. SFSP sites are operated by public or private nonprofit sponsors and located in approved geographical areas of need or where enrollment is where at least one-half of the children qualify for free or reduced price meals during the school year.

 

 

INDIGENT BURIAL PROGRAM

The Indigent Burial Program provides dignified professional burial services to income eligible residents of Escambia County only. Participating funeral homes and cemeteries are on a rotating schedule. Cremation services available only.

 

BAKER ACT PROGRAM

The Baker Act Program provides the local match of state subventions to fund crisis stabilization programs in connection with community alcohol and mental health services.

 

COMMUNITY CENTERS

Escambia County has established 14 neighborhood community centers throughout the county. Most centers are managed under the direction of neighborhood organizations that coordinate the access of the center use for community activities in unincorporated areas.

 

VETERAN SERVICES

The Veteran Services Office primary focus is to advise, instruct, and counsel veterans, their spouses, and children of the benefits available from the Veterans Administration and the Department of Defense. To help with information regarding the filing of claims for the following:

  •  Disabilities due to military service
  •  Veteran Administration home loans
  •  Burial
  •  Pension
  •  Education
  •  Vocational rehabilitation
  •  Hospitalization
  •  Discharge information
  •  Compensation
  •  Job services
  •  Illnesses related to military service
  •  And many more

Applicants must have proof of the following:

  •  Military service
  •  If veteran is deceased, proof of death certificate
  •  Spouse must have copy of marriage certificate
  •  Child must have copy of birth certificate
