During the fiscal year 2006-2007, District 2 was instrumental in the passing of key ordinances regarding the promotion of economic development, and the issues of condos-hotels and panhandlers.
Two key environmental issues in the district were completed in 2007 - Glynn Key storm water wetlands project and the Jones Swamp cleaning and wetlands project. The clean up of Bayou Chico and other waterways is currently in progress.
Several Code Enforcement “Clean Sweeps” helped improve the communities of Perdido Key, Brownsville, Grand Lagoon, Mayfair-Oakcrest, Bayou Davenport/Navy Point, Sun & Sand/Canal Drive, Myrtle Grove and Beach Haven. Code Enforcement stated 2,935 cases were reported and worked, 2,562 cases were abated, 193 cases were taken before special master and 373 were opened during the first 11 months of the district’s 2006-2007 fiscal year.
The year saw the following engineering/roads projects completed: Pen Haven neighborhood road resurfacing, Jackson Street resurfacing, Lake Charlene storm water project, re-naming of Dub Blum Bridge, and Coral Creek Road resurfacing. Meanwhile, the Bauer Road/Sorrento Road resurfacing project is currently underway.
And finally, the people of District 2 were pleased to see Seth Simpson Field at Bailey Middle School completed and additional athletic fields purchased for the southwest sector.
